It feels to me that the US is slipping toward a kind of civil war, like in my heart it’s already started. Both progressives and conservatives have visions for the future, and both are willing to kill or die to prevent the other from happening, which isn’t a big selling point when you’re trying to reason with someone and show how your vision is one where we all live in peace together. There is no vision like that, where conservatives get to keep profiting from War Crimes while progressives usher in a new era of horizontal democracy. Those two trains can’t share the same track, and there is only one track through the dark tunnel ahead.
I truly expect the US military to be Humiliated in Asia, in a way less like the flight from Saigon and more like the Germans after the siege of Stalingrad. Prisoners marched around in the desert till they die, kind of thing. I think after that the military and all the people it has indoctrinated will need someone to blame and beat up on to recover their lost sense of dominance. Who are they going to come after? The usual suspects: peacenics, intellectuals, racial minorities, activists, environmentalists, liberals, pagans, etc. You know the drill. I think some much smaller portion of the military industrial complex will resist the main crowd, with force eventually. And when you get fully trained modern mil forces fighting each other… well that’s a civil war.
