It feels to me that the US is slipping toward a kind of civil war, like in my heart it’s already started. Both progressives and conservatives have visions for the future, and both are willing to kill or die to prevent the other from happening, which isn’t a big selling point when you’re trying to reason with someone and show how your vision is one where we all live in peace together. There is no vision like that, where conservatives get to keep profiting from War Crimes while progressives usher in a new era of horizontal democracy. Those two trains can’t share the same track, and there is only one track through the dark tunnel ahead.

I truly expect the US military to be Humiliated in Asia, in a way less like the flight from Saigon and more like the Germans after the siege of Stalingrad. Prisoners marched around in the desert till they die, kind of thing.  I think after that the military and all the people it has indoctrinated will need someone to blame and beat up on to recover their lost sense of dominance. Who are they going to come after? The usual suspects: peacenics, intellectuals, racial minorities, activists, environmentalists, liberals, pagans, etc. You know the drill. I think some much smaller portion of the military industrial complex will resist the main crowd, with force eventually. And when you get fully trained modern mil forces fighting each other… well that’s a civil war.

Tick Tock! Between Wikileaks, the Brits, the Poles, and Americans without jobs to distract them, time is running out on lies of the U$ Military.  Which side are you on? Are you the usual kind of Patriot who supports the Military but hates Civilians controlling it? Then as they say in Boot Camp, ‘Make a hole and make it wide.’ The truth will kick the foundations from under everything you hold dear. Too bad for you. Remember in a truly -JUST- world, some stranger would have come and bombed your whole family for no reason. After all, that’s what YOU did to THEM whether directly or indirectly. It won’t be possible in this life time for you to suffer and learn enough to escape violent death in at least your next life too. See, even wars we are not yet alive for are YOUR goddamn fault!

Poland peels back layers on secret CIA prison for suspected terrorists

STARE KIEJKUTY, Poland — On an idyllic lake surrounded by woods and a double row of mesh-and-razor-wire fences about 100 miles north of Warsaw, there stands a secluded villa that the CIA once used to interrogate – and allegedly torture – top al Qaida suspects.

On the grounds of the Polish intelligence-training academy and nicknamed “Markus Wolf” for the former East German spy chief, it’s the focal point for a top-secret probe that Polish prosecutors have launched into how their government tolerated rampant violations of international and Polish law.

Wisconsin Progressives still mad over Union showdown now are close to the ‘unprotected groin’ of the GOP. They should attack not him but his power base, whoever backed him before he was ever elected to national office, whoever publicly gives him money, especially if they also get a return, like benefit from a gov contract. I would say 2/3 should attack his ‘conts,’ his contributor base, and 1/3 should start Twitter accounts as stalwart GOP Randroids who will -constantly- call him the Savior of GOP and Mitt Romney, tell him he is the ONLY ONE out of the WHOLE PARTY that isn’t just a poseur mouthing Ayn Rand, but a Real Blood and Balls Individualist with the Chutzpah to open a New Chapter in America. I suspect he is young, on a meteoric rise, embraces an ideology of Egotism, and likely can be encouraged to Delusions of Grandeur.

JW WOw. You don’t quite expect them to lay it out as clear as that, do you? They can really convince themselves noone’s listening, can’t they. Just look at that poor sap. “When people get a little something to lose, they’ll get selfish. Then we got em. Unless they feel an obligation to society. Then we don’t got em. That’s when we make fun of their foreign sounding names and draw horns on big photos of them.

• Skeptical Surrealist  Well…. they see education taking people away from them not as evidence that smart people reject their talking points, but that education is really a conspiracy against them. It’s true. Many good hearted Americans retreated into Academia when there was no call to do anything else but flip burgers and make payday loans, and thought they would help educate future gens about the issues of war and capitalism and some of the repressed history. That’s what GOP accuse academia of tolerating, and I must say some of it is guilty as charged. But to me it always did seem like academic rads tended to be the Man’s Own Tamed Militants, well fed in gilded cages to squawk forth some emasculated version of lefty free thinking ideals to vaccinate future middle management against all that stuff. They always were kind of fooling themselves, like liberalism generally. New Deal Liberalism was an effort to preserve Capitalism against the possibility of real change, not to really make it just and fair. Just and Fair are the negative Reciprocal of Profitable, so Profit will be against Justice 80% of the time. The one hopeful factor is that power not only corrupts, it stupefies. And absolute power stupefies absolutely. Maybe it wasn’t syphilis that made 500 years of European monarchs, bat shit crazy. maybe it was power itself. Nothing like a good rant to start the day.
